Welcome to Trefriw Woollen Mills.
Visit the working woollen museum and turbine house.
At Trefriw Woollen Mills traditional Welsh bedspreads and tweeds are manufactured from the raw wool. Most of the textile machinery is over 50 years old and is powered by electricity generated by vintage turbines.
Originally a "pandy" (Welsh for fulling mill), situated on the banks of the river Crafnant to use the soft water to wash the wool and drive the water wheels, the mill is still worked by the descendants of Thomas Williams who bought it in 1859.
The wool is carded, spun and dyed on the premises to make soft heathery tweeds, Joseph (many colours) travelling rugs, double weave bedspread with geometrical patterns and Welsh "tapestry" cloth. The tweed is tailored into hats, capes, jackets and scarves and the tapestry is made up into throws, dinner sets, waistcoats and purses.

During the Summer hand spinning is demonstrated and there is an opportunity to "Try Weaving Yourself" on small handlooms (May 26th - September 25th, Tuesday - Thursday). The Weaver's Garden contains plants which provide natural fibres and dyes.
Products can be purchased in the mill shop together with pure wool knitwear and accessories and garments made from natural fibres. Sheepskin rugs and other products are also stocked.
